How To Type on PDF Online?
Easy-to-use PDF software
What type of older MacBook would be worth buying in 2018? My needs: office, browsing, music, and PDF reading. Is 4GB RAM enough for light use, for the next 5 years or so?
I am planning to buy a new MBP with the exact same specs as the one you are asking about. That machine will be an upgrade to my current MBP which I have been using since 2009, 7 days a week with an average of 18 hours a day (With a few days off for holidays and such). I consider it to be the most valued buy I have ever made. Let me explain. I am a programmer, currently I am working for a hotels group and I am doing all of my programming on this 2009 laptop. I also do a lot of graphics design using Online Form Typer products on this machine and I use it with a couple VMs to provide IT support for all three hotels of the company as well as general administration, including a few wifi sites and all the company’s infrastructure. Historically, this MBP has been thrown 6 meters off a table by a gust of wind and plunged on my balcony’s metal bars before hitting the floor. And it has taken half litre of water on it by a clumsy ex-friend. I have spent around 300 euro since I bought it in repairs and another 200 hundred in upgrades (Switching to an SSD, and 2 times memory upgrade to bring it up to the maximum of 8GB that this model can support). Also for the record the repairs have been. new keyboard after the water incident, new battery after it completed its circles and got bloated(?). I have been using an external wifi card which was also burned by water damage, but I couldn't afford to replace the cabling and wifi at the time (3 years ago), so I settled with the external one I was already using for network pen testing. Keep in mind that we are talking about 8 years, any other machine I could have bought then would have been replaced twice by now. I have fully upgraded 2 pcs to the cost of buying new ones since 2009 and still for my work, the MBP is better. So I think that buying a new one will make it for a good 6 years give or take, considering the rate of new technology. I hope this helps you with your decision.

P.S. If you do not have enough storage space, then you need to get a larger hard disk, especially if you use your laptop for video editing or other multimedia related works. As I discussed in this Post, you need 8 GB of RAM for a fast and responsive computer.
